Description: Echinacea purpurea (Purple Coneflower) is a member of the Aster Family (Asteraceae). The Hortus Kewensis, ed. 2, vol. 5 recorded that Echinacea purpurea (published as Rudbeckia purpurea), a native of North America, was introduced into cultivation before 1699.
